Almost ANYTHING is cheaper than nuclear power.
First of all, the direct cost of plant construction and operation.
Secondly, waste disposal is still unsolved, in fact, unaddressed.
Thirdly, the total Uranium resources of the Planet Earth are insufficient to sustain light water reactors already in existence for more than a few decades.
Finally, there is the proliferation issue. Any country with nuclear power can make nuclear bombs. The UN's inspection is a joke.
France is wrong again, as usual.
The future belongs to renewable energy sources and all of them depend upon the Sun, directly or indirectly. And here are the front runners:
1. Sea Solar Power which is currently constructing its pilot plant in Guam and will be able to produce electricity cheaper than nuclear or oil power right from the start.
2. Anything into Oil (Change trash & sewage to oil for $15@barrel) If we applied this to agricultural and forestry waste, we could eliminate all petroleum use.
3. Windpower Monthly
4. Building-integral On-site Solar and Wind Power Systems
5. Harnessing Wind, Solar and Micro Hydro Power Makes Living in Remote Locations Possible!
6. PV Power Resource Site; Photovoltaics: Sustainable Power for the World
7. British Photovoltaic Association
EVERY ONE of these is cheaper than nuclear power.

BULLSHIT! The enormous subsidy needed to keep the French electric generation system going is carefully hidden in the national budget.

- You just make things up, don't you.
- The Chinese seem to be doing it fairly cheap.
- I'd have to admit that nuclear power is one area where the French seem to have beaten America all hollow.
