Nobody is going into a fission reactor to get bomb material. Not and come back out, anyway. In fact, plutonium fissioning in a reactor is a lot safer from terrorists than plutonium sitting in subcritical storage around the country.
A nuclear reactor, no matter WHAT its fuel, cannot explode like an atom bomb. This is the oldest myth in the book.
We have been handling plutonium in this country since Fat Man. I don't see any reason why we can't continue to do so with proper precautions.
A typical nuclear powerplant puts out about 1,000 MW. This is the equivalent of ten floating Sea Power plants, or 100 land-based ones. And of course, the Sea Power system only works best where there is a couple of thousand feet of ocean depth. While there are a few islands and coastal cities where this could be quite useful, and I hope that the development on this technology continues, for the most part the major power markets are elsewhere.
