The currently proposed U.S. method of disposing of wastes in underground permanent repositories is a bad idea.
Nuclear wastes should be stockpiled on one or more military-run facilities out in the wastelands. The kinds of places where they used to test atom bombs. They should be stored in secure bunkers inside these bases. Atomic missiles and warheads are routinely stored on such bases, and if we have accepted that they are safe from accident or terrorism, I don't see why the same wouldn't be true of nuclear wastes.
Eventually breeder technology could eliminate a lot of these wastes, and other methods might come along in the next few decades.
You can't come up with any better disposal ideas in the future if you don't have access to the stuff when the new ideas come along.

- BULLSHIT! The enormous subsidy needed to keep the French electric generation system going is carefully hidden in the national budget.

- You just make things up, don't you.
- The Chinese seem to be doing it fairly cheap.
- I'd have to admit that nuclear power is one area where the French seem to have beaten America all hollow.
