A quarrel I have with aircraft like the F/A-22 is they are too expensive. The F/A-22 is an ideal weapon for destroying state-of-the-art Soviet fighter planes. However the Soviet Union has gone the way of the dodo bird. Do we really need something as sophisticated as the F/A-22 to strafe towel heads? I'd rather see the money spent on A-10 Warthogs, AC-130 Spectre/Spooky gunships and helicopters. If people want to be super sophisticated then the Airborne Laser (ABL) mounted on a Boeing 747-400F would be a good thing. Obviously such a weapon is ideal for blasting Scuds during boost. However, I like the idea of some Iranian mullah giving an outdoor sermon about the Satanic Americans when suddenly a flash of light shoots down from the sky and turns the mullah into a cloud of greasy blue smoke. That's an example of peace through superior fire power.
