On this board alot of the anti-life sentiment comes from those who want an immediate mission to Mars. This point of view is also frequently expressed by Bob Zubrin.
Jeffrey Kargel who wrote the opinion piece in this weeks Science is a highly regarded Mars scientist, who has published extensively on Mars. His view probably extends also from with his own research regarding recent water on Mars, aside from the Mars rover results.
