re: gotta love a granite

Enchanted Rockis very close to Fredericksburg (An old German town where Admiral Nimitz is from).

And don’t miss the Willow City Loop drive, out to the east. This time of year it is covered in bluebonnets.

And while you are in the Texas Hill Country, get you a chunk of Llanite Llanite is a very rare form of granite that is found only at spot in Texas, and it has possibly be found in Africa at one location. It is a very hard granite.

And be sure and hunt for some beautiful blue Topaz over in Mason County

The geology of the Texas hill country is very interesting. I believe it was back when Pangea was formed a mountain range was thrust up across Texas, from the Marathon Uplift, to the Ouachita Mountains, and over to the Appalachians. Here in Texas, the mountains wear eroded down to their granite roots. Then, when the dinosaurs were roaming North America, a sea covered the area and deposited layers of fossel ridden limestone. Then tectonic activity uplifted the area and created the The Llano Uplift. Erorsion weathered away the limestone exposing the old Ouachita Mountain roots.

If you love geology, you have to come visit this area. The center of the Llano uplift contains igneous rocks from the Precambrian time. There are very nice granites, schist and gneiss. If you are lucky, you can find various types of crystals. Surrounding these Precambrian igneous rocks, are layers of limestone laid down during the age of the dinosaurs. They are full of fossils and even dinosaur tracks.

The scenery is also spectacular. The rivers and lakes are cool and clear. It is my favorite place in the State.

Have you ever been to Stone Mountain near Atlanta?
