Relativity again.

Her husband's measure of devotion is a relative thing. For some folks 3 or 4 years seems like forever. For others - like a few minutes.

I couldn't have remarried with my wife in such a state. It's somewhat unfathomable. It would be like adopting a child while yours lies in a coma. Its about replacement, like one were replacing a worn tire. This is about selfishness vs. selflessness. The selfish person wants a replacement because its not about the other person its about oneself.

Tom speaks from his own position.

Moral relativity makes the issue a definer not of what is right and wrong but the disparate positions/levels of emotional depth we all share.

I know a number of men who would be all too happy if their wives fell into a coma. They are very unhappy marriage relationships that daily play out and regenerate their mutual unhappiness. I know others who would go a hundred or a thousand years and never remarry -- forever faithful to their wives in such a state, or even after their wives would die.

Let's be honest. Love is relative. Some folks truly, truly love eachother and others merely are physically attracted, or just like eachother or even simply feel more secure together than apart.

Michael's love for Terri, clearly was of a lesser quality than many men hold for their wives. These men judge this based upon juxtaposing themselves and their wives in Michael's situation. Other men can probably relate to and sympathize with Michael and feel that their lives would truly begin again without the presence of their wives.

Again, no right or wrong. Only relative views from relative positions.
