People don't understand how the brain really works. There were some comments made on Current Events about brain scans. Comparisons were made between Schiavo's scan and normal brains. No one trotted out a scan of a hydrocephalic's brain. Some of those look almost as bad as Schiavo's but the person scanned was still conscious and functional. I'm not a physcian and freely admit my ignorance about such matters. However it seemed to me that some of Schiavo's brain was delaminating from the inner skull wall. To my ignorant eyes that was more worrying than her having big ventricals.
IMHO, the Schiavo thing was not genuine news and should never have been made into a public issue. Tragedies like her's happen many times every day. We've had similar events occur within my family as I'm sure is true with most people reading this. The Schiavo issue should have been resolved quietly within her family and not made into a media circus. It was shameful that outsiders (liberal and conservative) exploited this for their own selfish benefit.
