You have basically accused Democrats of treason, including McGovern, who is a decorated veteran of WWII. You accuse the Democratic Party of alliance with the Soviet Union. This is not true.
It is true that some Democrats sympathized with the Sandinistas. That's because the leader whose dictatorship the Sandinistas opposed, our pal Somoza, was a pig. But he was a non-Communist pig, so that was OK. Notice that, when Ortega lost the election in 1990, the Republicans were predicting that he would lead a rebellion and overthrow the elected government because he was a Marxist. Instead, he surprised you guys and turned out to be a patriot -- a Nicaraguan patriot. He went home and continued to pursue what he thought was appropriate through non-violent political means. The Sandinistas are still a major opposition party in Nicaragua. One presumes that the Nicaraguans have the right to vote for whom they want, even if their choice is a party of which the United States of the Almighty does not approve.
It is also true that Democrats, and non-Democrats as well, have looked at people who are our ideological allies with some distaste from time to time, because they oppress their own people or their neighbors.
The United States, in its tunnel-visioned fight against anything and anyone who quotes Marx, laid down with dogs, and so got up with fleas. When people oppose brutality because it's brutal, regardless of the ideology of the brutes, they are standing up for principle instead of ideology. Do you think that's unAmerican?
