I want to make certain folks here don't misconstrue my perspective on the subject. I am no peacenik. My opposition to going to war in Iraq should be balanced against my 110% support for our military action in Afghanistan. Nor should anyone here misunderstand my opposition to going to war as opposition to winning the war.
I firmly believe starting an unnecesasry preemptive war in Iraq was a very bad idea. Its negative consequences for American foreign will dog us for decaades. But now that we've created the quagmire there, we had better figure out how to fix it. In spite of your optimism, its still very possible for the thing to unravel into civil war.
A month-to-month look at U.S. casualties since March, 2003 shows that the rate of dead and wounded soldiers isn't slackening. And the rate of insurgency acts is actually on the rise rather than lessening. Its not getting better. The current administration - being run by an AWOL reservist - has no idea what its doing or how to stop the insurgency. We are going to at this for a very long time.
