Polarization, in reference to light, refers to the orientation of the electric field vector of the electromagnetic wave. Simply changing the polarization has nothing to do with the 'path' of the light.... so:

Polarization, means the waves no longer move in an unpredictable path, but are now predictable.

is a statement that makes no sense...

I get the feeling you're quoting lines from sources and using all this laser equipment without really understanding the science behind it.

There was a great scene in the film "She's Having a Baby" from 1988 where Kevin Bacon applies for a job at a top AD agency and they take him into the room and say, "We went over all your application and references and the only thing that's true on this piece of paper appears to be your name. But that took a lot of balls and creative writing skills...you're hired. You'll learn as you go."

In your first sentence you quote, "refers to the orientation of the electric field vector of the electromagnetic wave"

RL...that "orientation" means "position" and vector means "direction". When you state the next sentence makes no sense you contradict your first statement. All those filters are influencing and filtering specific wavelengths of emitted radiation.

Polarizing waves has EVERYTHING to do with making their output predictable. In Linear polarization the directional output never varies. Here is a great link

When you say the Van Allen EMF fields can't scatter gamma radiation you're wrong. The Van Allen Belt has an inner and outer layer. The outer layer is filled mostly with energized electrons, and the inner layer is filled with protons.

Well...what happens when the gamma rays hit that outer layer of high energy electrons? Oh...that's right Compton scattering.

So a percentage of gamma radiation is already being scattered before it hits the earth. My suggestion was to polarize the Van Allen belts and make the the motion of the electrons uniform. Free electrons, which we must remember are wave packets when viewed in the light of wave/particle duality, are subject to manipulation. The goal is to increase the Compton scattering by presenting a greater number of electrons to the incoming gamma bursts.

To help visualize it, imagine squeezing all the electrons floating loose in the outer Van Allen field. Shrink the width of the field and squeeze all the electrons into a very thin, almost solid wall ,of electron energy. That would increase the gamma ray scattering by Compton effect and effectively shield the earth.

The field would be somewhat self sustaining and regenerating, because the electromagnetic field's outer belt would be replenished with free electrons by the solar wind and so after a large GRB impact would replenish any displaced electrons in short order.

You certainly could NOT do ANYTHING to shield an object from gamma radiation using 'electromagnetc fields to scatter gamma radiation'...

It is not just delusional, it indicates that you dont have the faintest clue as to what you are talking about... You dont know the meaning of the words you are using, and you have no clue as to the concepts behind those words...

Again: you're wrong. I know exactly what I'm talking about. The clueless one is you.

Again, polarization of waves means you control their vector and filter the output. This is true in ALL forms of wave polarization. The Van Allen belts already are shielding us from a percentage of incoming gamma radiation through Compton scattering and can theoretically be manipulated to do a much better job by increasing the Compton scattering that already occurs.

To sum up:

Just because one doesn't understand what someone is saying doesn't mean the other person is delusional - it merely means one doesn't understand what they are saying.

PS
Robert thinks it takes great hubris to argue polarization with a laser engineer--obviously he couldn't discern your BS. Well, in my line of work, understanding waves of all kinds as well as all the ways they can be influenced is even more fundamental. I worked on designing lasers back in the late 80s, including how to increase their coherency and potency for military applications - one of the main ways to do so is to polarize the emitting radiation. Controlled EMF fields were one of the tools used to pare down the radiation beam and funnel all its energy into a single high-potency invisible wavelength.

Polarization controls the waves and increses coherency. Lasers directional output is uniform and predictable because of polarization. To hear a laser engineer say polarization has nothing to do with waveform predictability and directional uniformity is just....well...stupefying...and I'm left with the "She's having a baby" job application scenario.

Your employers must be either incompetents, idiots or very kind-hearted souls. I know I sure as heck would never hire you.

;-)

PS Sorry to be so harsh, but I've put up with more than enough abuse from you on these boards, when you clearly don't know jacksquat.
