While I don't think Bush jr. thought this through, and did not show enough "prudence' -
I disagree, Don. Read the CIA report. Based on hard facts, Saddam was doing everything he hought he could get away with, and he certainly intended to put his WMD programs back full swing once sanctions were lifted. The estimates may have been wrong, but Saddam had done everything he could to frustrate the UN weapons inspectors.
He'd attacked his neighbors, killed his countrymen. Christ, even Clinton wanted to bomb him. For lack of a better word, the man was just "evil".
Does this mean that I think that Bush jr handled this correctly? no. but were his activities impeachable? no. if stupidity was an impeachable offense, you might have a case.
Speaking of the "bigger picture", just like Tom, you avoid the Office of Special Plans fiasco. So I guesss it just goes to show that there really is a middle ground, even here at the barely habitable zone.
