You ought to try fast pitch some day.
I don't see any reason we should stay until there's peace and quiet in Iraq. Once a constitution is implemented, a long term government elected, and Iraqi security is handling over 80 to 90% of the security, I don't see any reason not to start a scheduled withdrawal giving them the time to pick up the remaining few percent.
Israel shows you can have a stable government in the presence of terror. That is all we owe Iraq since the sunni/shiite conflict is not of our making. Without our presence there it is likely the foreign fighters will leave. Without the suicidal foreigners the bathists loose their most potent weapons. I don't think the insurgency will amount to much for long after that. Even if fit does I believe recent events suggest the Iraqi's will be able to keep it to a level similar to Israel's on their own.

Mark
