...Saddam had chemical weapons. He used them on the Kurds and had factories churning them out after the first gulf war. Remember the UNSCOM report from 1998 I've repeatedly posted?
Saddam was a major psychopath. Rewriting him into the victim and champion of Muslim faith is hysterical.
I'll post it again and again. You, Don and other folks still believe your own rhetoric about Saddam somehow having been clean of WMD since the gulf war. He was not. Repeating mindlessly that Iraq didn't represent a WMD threat doesn't make it true.
What I love about the link is it's the wonderful unimpeachable UN as a source. And what's more it was written when Clinton was in office!
So is the UN lying? Was it a Clinton conspiracy to lie about Saddam's WMD programs?
The left can't get over their own hate. Hate has clouded the left's vision. They espouse peace while stabbing with daggers at Bush's heart. They are emotional on the topic which they are off-equilibrium on. They espouse peace because they are filled with hate. Just like Don espouses endless concern for our troops when its obvious to everyone that he has none.
If one's going to target Bush, the left needs to pick legitimate flubs. Such as the failed immigration policy and failed border security, an only so-so economy and education reform. All these provide ample target for criticism.
Bush's major mistake (re:Iraq) was not realizing the widespread ignorance of much of the inhabitants and the region. Like those reclamation projects where they cleaned up inner-city ghettoes - only to see their work completely undone in a few months, one has to realize that mentalities seek their own level. Some folks gravitate towards filth, graffiti, crime and violence. In Iraq, violence and religious fanaticism were suppressed by Saddam's Iron fist and wood-chippers.
It's hard to win when only your team plays by the rules. Iraq will eventually develop a quasi-democratic state, because that's the best the regions common-denominator-mindset can at this time comprehend and deal with. It will still be better than Saddam and neighboring nations, but not by as much as we would all have hoped.
