What if there is a Creator, but he/she/it is not God or a god?

It is not impossible that our Universe was created by some being, but who says it has to be God or a god as we envision them?

My vote is for a grad student from an alternate universe with a seriously advanced society that can make universes, and we are his/her/its thesis project.

Seriously, what if we were created by an advanced but not perfect/supernatural being or group of beings? Of course this still doesn't fall into the parameters of what the Intelligent Design proponents think created existence - it's just an "excuse" to "prove" God to those they consider unbelievers through the guise of science, not matter what they try to say otherwise.

Perhaps the Deists are on the right track: God (or some other being) created the Universe and all its parameters, then let it run by itself while he goes off to work on some other hobby.

I still think the Universe just happened and its complexities are so amazing to such little beings as ourselves that it seems like someone had to make it all - but hey, I could be wrong.

Anyone ever read what the Mormons think about the nature of God and what happens to those who ascend through the ranks in the afterlife?
