I am a big believer in, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime"
If the trees he cut were indeed a precious part of the neighborhood environment, then he is indeed an asshole.
On the other hand, if the trees were of no particular value but were protected by idiotic bylaws that we know are often part of many HOA, I might applaud him for telling them to stick it in their ear.
