Pictures

You touch on an area that causes a lot of controversy, even outside anomalist areas. By definition, a probe camera is going to be digital, although I think very early ones were analog. It's pixels that come back, and pixels you have to deal with. Unenhanced photos from Saturn often look like crap. So they're enhanced. And now, are we seeing what we would see if we were there? What about colors, often simulated by slapping different filters over cameras?

If you want a good time, start a discussion about what color Mars really is.

The human eye-brain system is designed to pull patterns out of images. Even given the slightest HINT of a pattern. The hard part is overlooking the temptation.

Sometimes something is there.
