Do these classics really need to be remade?

Since they are much about special effects the remakes are sometimes worth it. Some think that remakes are insulting but to me one has nothing to do with the other. If someone paints a masterpiece of the Eiffel Tower, does that mean it should not be painted again.

Wylie's WWC novel was my favorite teenage read. I must have read it 10-15 times along with the far lesser After Worlds Collide. If it is remade I will buy the ticket but at this stage of production I have found that the culmination is far from certain, (think Ender's Game).

Regarding white Americans, I recently rented the 1951 War Of The Worlds and viewed it with my grandsons. The absence of anyone black was absolutely surreal. There were Asians, and Hispanics but not one black.

I never noticed that when I was 11 and apparently few did. That is a damn shame. We could have saved ourself a lot of grief if we had noticed.
