Larry, I think you need to go easy on the "kooks". I certainly disagree with them but understand why there'd be a drive to look for absurd conspiracies when their elected leaders act so bizarre before and after a catastrophic event. Politicians ask for the spector of conspiracy every time they open their mouths with their evasive answers. Nothing better for triggering an active imagination than someone hemming and hawing around an issue like our leaders do. I'm certainly not just pointing fingers at Republicans here. Both parties are guilty.

The other thing they fail to do is to look Americans in the eye and speak directly to them about things that could have the image of impropriety. Let's give the benefit of doubt (a real stretch for me in this case) and say that Haliburton was the only company capable of handling the Iraq rebuilding contract. Just for once wouldn't it be refreshing if the morons in charge would point out the reasons for it ahead of time instead of blindsiding people with it.

An occasional bout of humility and the admission that mistakes were made instead of this continual bluster and chest thumping we hear out of Washington would go a long way towards building trust as well. Who have you heard in the administration that has taken the responsibility for having too few servicemen in Iraq to secure the nation after we "won"?

There are and always will be unanswered questions about the leadup and aftermath of 9/11. It would be refreshing if our government would address them honestly and openly and would go a long way towards defusing the outrageous theorist.
