When I said go easy on the kooks I really meant the general public that gets taken in by the real nut cases. Those guys are fair game. They could castrate the guy that said the moon landing was fake and it'd be all right by me. There's probably a true conspiracy in all major events but it's almost never to the degree that it gets presented by the theorists. In every administration or unit of power there's going to be some form of corruption and people waiting in the wings to take advantage of the weak. Generally the percentages of people like that are small and if they go beyond certain boundaries they get exposed by others that can't stomach their deeds. It's why massive conspiracies don't work. Even in an organization made up of very like-minded individuals, there's always a few with a conscience that will spill the beans.

It's why I can believe that the administration stopped the intelligence services from preventing 9/11 but the whole "explosives brought down the towers scenario" seems like hooey. For the former, there's a number of people that left the administration with the same story that tend to collaborate that thought. Lots of whistle-blowers add creedence to that idea. In the latter, there aren't any explosives engineers blowing the whistle on wiring up the towers.

As for what you have to say about the inability for our country to come up with a large enough invasion force to stabilize Iraq after toppling Saddam, isn't that a pretty damning admission we should never have taken on the task in the first place? Seems a pretty dumb tactic to stretch your military that thin.
