Tilting at windmills

Why in the world do you think that there's any hope of salvaging Bush's reputation at this late date?

You're hanging your hopes for Bush's salvation on an awfully thin thread if you think that nobody's paid any attention to Bush's problems. It's just that normal people don't obsess like partisans over things like the Downing Street Memo. They note yet another piece of evidence that Bush can't be trusted, and move on, not generally thinking about it much until the next revelation. But the fact that people do notice is amply demonstrated by Bush's abysmal poll numbers.

It's a mistake to imagine that events don't proceed between public revelations. When was the last time you thought about Jack Abramoff? I wasn't reminded of him until this morning when the news of his conviction broke. The wheels of justice grind slowly but surely, and you can be sure that professionals are quietly but surely building a solid legal case against Bush. And there's nothing you or anyone else can do this late in the game to change that. If it comes to impeachment, Bush will be tried in Congress, not the blogosphere.
