To the Left, this is all about Bush, and nothing but Bush. This is serious myopia.
I have already listed my problems with Bush's administration elsewhere, and won't go over it again.
To me, it's about what the Left represents, their policies, and what they would do if they got back in power. For most of the people here, it almost seems like the world began on January 2001. For me, it goes back a lot further than Bush, and involves a pattern of behavior that matured during the final years of the Cold War.
The attitudes presented in the war against Islamic facism by the Left are exactly the same ones presented in the war against communist totalitarianism. The blaming of our own side above all others, the need to appease and surrender, and the consistent adoption of the positions and views of our enemies in every conflict. Unfortunately, in the last thirty years, the Democratic Party has morphed into just one more arm of the Left. It ain't Scoop Jackson's party any more, or even Lyndon Johnson's. John Kerry and the other 60s remnants are the face of the party now. Believe me, it shows.
I am fully aware of where history would be right now if we had followed the wishes of the Left in foreign policy over the past thirty years. I know what their positions were on arms control, on support of numerous developing communist regimes across the world, on U.S. military programs, on appeasement instead of confrontation, and on consistent moral surrender.
You see these arguments as slavish devotion to a political leader. I can see where that might come easily to a liberal. I see this as defense against a philosophy that is trying desperately to regain power, and that would wreck us in the current conflict if allowed to run things now.
Bush is struggling, but IMO, struggling along the right path in foreign policy. Ask yourself where we would be if someone like Kerry was in power and the Democrats running congress. You might want to go back to bin Laden's manifesto, and re-read it first.
It might also be a good idea to go back and review Clinton's Iraq policies and statements, too. The world did not begin on January of 2001.
