Drive an exotic or anything resembling fast and you invite even a maladjusted granny with the kids to race away from the stoplight in the minivan -never mind the kid in the Mustang who is weaving through traffic to make sure he is first at the next red light alongside you.
That's the problem. Everyone knows the US has power to spare, but at the same time the violence contagion triggers hostile reactions.
How many times have you been in traffic where one bad driver tailgating & weaving lane to lane only to race to a redlight? Suddenly several more are driving more aggressively and pretty soon nearly everybody is driving faster and aggressive. An exotic, with its visible speed potential can do the same thing, even when driven sedately. Watch how folks drive next to a Viper going 5 mph below the speed limit - and you'll see what I mean.
That's the gun methodology. Bring in troops armed with weapons and they attract every group of psychos with weapons from fifty miles around trying to show them who's boss.
Human inferiority complexes do not follow logic. Generally out of sight special forces is the best means of protection in tense areas rather than massive displays of visible military force. In the same way a Renntech 4 door Mercedes doesn't advertise speed when compared to a Ferrari and doesn't trigger psychological defense mechanisms.
