Who needs planets?

We think people and other beings need to live on a planet, or make it
their destination after some long interstellar journey. But what if there
aren't any "nice" planets in the vicinity, and terraforming takes too long?

Why not live in a large artificial environment of your own creation
tailored to your own biology and culture? You won't have to worry
about storms or earthquakes and if the system you happen to be in
has a problem, you just kick on the engines and leave for another one.

Remember the O'Neil Space Colonies?
