You should try to catch the "Science of Superman" bit on Scifi
As a comic strip fan you might enjoy it
It traces the various comic strip and film incarnations of Superman and the interest (or periodic lack of interest) in matching his abilities with science. I was surprised that there was a good deal of interest in making his abilities believable in the early days.
In the original comic strips Superman could not fly. He could only jump due to the big difference in the gravity of Earth vs Krypton. He was also vulnerable to poison gas and electrical shock.
I was also surprised that at one point they required Superman to wear a space suit when in outer space.
