I really was a big fan of Richard Boone. I thought he was a fine actor and made an effort to see most of his work, as disappointing as some of it was.
His last role was as Commodore Perry in The Bushito Blade. A 1981 turkey in which he looked like someone in the last stages of serosis. He died soon after that of throat cancer so I guess it was the cancer that had ravaged him.
A couple of trivia items I ran across:
Boone turned down the lead in The Wild Bunch, an excellent blockbuster film that starred William Holden instead.
In HGWT Paladin sometimes wore a leather jacket with a zipper. Zippers had not been invented in the time setting of the series.
