Like when they put a huge moon in the sky of Vulcan in Star Trek: The Motion Picture
(also released in 1979 - I think there is a pattern here) even though Spock clearly said
that "Vulcan has no moon" to Uhura in the episode "The Man Trap".
Gene Roddenberry "fixed" that little problem in the film novelization by declaring that
Vulcan didn't have a moon - it had a whole 'nuther planet next door! And as you said,
the quakes from a world that big and nearby would probably keep a society from
staying in one piece - but don't it look cool?!
Apparently the moon/planet was removed digitally from the 2001 DVD edition.
And apparently a large moon/planet was seen in the animated episode "Yesteryear",
predating ST:TMP by 5 years.
