If you are old fashioned, does that make you a conservative?

Whoa. I really never thought of myself as a conservative before, but I guess Pogo was right on, we have found the enemy and he is us.

I have long been entertaining the old fashioned idea proposed by John Locke that government's power to govern comes from the consent of the governed. And silly me, I truly thought that in this country the authority to govern was ceded to the government from the rights of the citizens. If this were truly the case, the government couldn't claim powers the citizens were not in a position to grant them. As an example, maintainence of a death penalty should not be available to any government where the citizens didn't possess the authority to kill people. Clearly, the concept here would be you can't give to your government something you not only don't have but never had.

The belief in the US Constitution, the form of government we are supposed to have is such an old fashioned idea. Does this make it a conservative idea? Lockean liberalism is deeply embedded in the provenance of both our Declaration of Independece and Constitution. It would seem this concept is an American idea and not just a liberal or conservative one.

So how come some states still want to Kill Bill?
