My guess is the first two astronauts to get to Mars, like these first two long-distance rovers, will not rappel down a dang thing in their time on the planet. We're doing the standard apples and oranges comparison bit here.
I'll go one step further - I also guess that a robot on Mars will go over a surface that a human would rappel, before a human ever does it.
