re: dangerous to believe

And it is very dangerous to believe that it is our responsibility to make evil in the world go away by overthrowing all the governments that permit or encourage evil.

Look around. Who else is going to deal with things like this? I'm hearing a lot of people, including many liberals, say we should be "doing something" about Darfur. What should we be "doing?" It gets a little vague at that point. Nobody wants the U.S., and a very few allies, to be "world policeman," but if such a thing is required, where else do we turn? The child rapers currently on duty in Africa, or the troops sleeping at their posts as southern Lebanon is turned into an arsenal?

I notice that you did not answer my question to you, and instead let REB carry your water.

If someone else is doing a good job of making the point, why not?

The screamingly obvious answer to your question on why rebellion isn't possible in Iraq, which I gave in a different thread, is that rebellion and assassinations had already been attempted there a number of times, and that the result was wholesale slaughter of everyone remotely connected with the attempts. There are mass graves filled with Shiites and Kurds who resisted Saddam's rule.

Saddam had two sons who would take over when he died of old age, and there would have been a very good chance of that regime outliving all of us. And believe me, it would not have been a peaceful regime. Saddam had already invaded two neighboring countries, and to assume he would never take his military to war again, or respond to Iran's nuclear program, is wishful thinking.
