There's a whole "Iraqis were better off under Saddam" meme out there, and you've probably seen it more than once even on this board.
The theory seems to be that slavery and persecution of some members of society is an acceptable price to pay for lack of deadly street violence and the maintenance of basic services and luxuries for a given few.
Considering that I am constantly told that physical safety from attack is not sufficient reason for Americans to give up even some of their liberties, this is an odd view, but there it is.
