Do you think the reports of Bush meddling in Venezuela are completely made up? Face it, you would expect the CIA to be involved there.
History, which is almost by definition the reporting after all the hype and propaganda has cleared away, reveals much about the world which is different than the immediate justifications perpetrated upon the public by politicians.
Coupled with an open mind, exposed to a variety of sources, and a person can come up with a picture of the world in which the self-interest of the various parties is evident.
Or one can steep themselves in the jingoistic blogs and believe their side is all white and the other side is all black. As Carl Jung described these people, for them "the center of all iniquity is 5 km. behind enemy lines."
Something we all know isn't true.
