"When I said that people would sell their soul for money...What I was lamely trying to evoke was that for all the people that put false hope into pseudoscience.....the effect it has on everyday life, the effect it has on the number of people in the world is but a mere blip on the radar."
I don't agree that pseudoscience is mere blip. But As explained previously stuff which called pseudoscience is associated by many people with rather harmless examples of pseudoscience. The reason many people think of pseudoscience in this cartoonish way is whenever someone defines or gives examples of pseudoscience it's *easier* to give simple and obvious examples. If instead the example of the well known "DDT scare" is used it's problematic because there are still huge amounts of people are still clueless about this as being false science- or junkscience or pseudoscience.
And another aspect of this is people associate pseudoscience with some weird belief.
Frankly I don't care what people believe, especially compared to what people are convinced is true which btw is obviously false.
The "DDT scare" has resulted in tens of millions of people dying painful horrible deaths and hundreds of millions of people suffering needlessly- that is NOT a blip and that is ONE example.
"The love of money...which I am well aware is NOT a pseudoscience, is more of a threat to the well being of all walks of life...Therefore a much greater problem to be concerned with than the silliness of horoscopes, aliens, numbers, crystals, pyramid power...whatever flavor of the month one chooses to believe in."
Greed has been long thought to be is one of greatest sins, but this a rather complicated topic. I will instead simply say the pursuing wealth should not be confused with greed.
"I felt that kind of fervent emotion should be focused towards a tangible threat that rocks the very foundation of common decency on the whole planet...."
I don't know if I share this view. But if you want to start a new thread, stating your thesis I would probably find it an interesting topic to discuss.
