Phrenology, Inc.

What really depresses me is that when new and novel pseudosciences are introduced, such as Feng Shue or Aromatherapy, they are immediately accepted in popular culture without the slightest questioning or skepticism. Not even a raised eyebrow.

I guess for the former you can always claim that it's a "famous ancient Chinese secret", although no can even tell you with any certainty whether the ancient Chinese ever even heard of it. After all, this is the civilization that believes ursine gall bladders and ground up rhinocerous horns cure impotence.

People seem terrified that they might live in an indifferent and chaotic universe, they desperately require some means of predicting or controlling it. Still, they reject the one form of natural philosophy, science, that everyone agrees has been at least partially successful at demonstrating both prediction and control of nature.
