If you can just convince everyone they're rugged individualists...

ER — 3/16/2007 4:27:13 PM (archived)

...they'll never organize themselves to bring you down. The sins of collectivism are actively cultivated amongst the "associates" or the "team", but they are contemptible among the people that really matter.

The neoconservative virtues--independence, individualism, self-reliance, ambition and an obsession with self-improvement and self-determination; are highly prized in managers, executives and entrepreneurs, but not tolerated in employees. The standard answer to those seeking economic justice is always "Become one of us, we're not stopping you. No one's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to be a wage slave. If you haven't got what it takes to join us, then shut up and get back to work."

Or my favorite, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way."
