re: The rabble and the oligarchy.

I fail to see what is wrong with Supermarkets- whether it's selling potatoes or T-shirts or hand tools [or all of the above].
Now, I can see that a smaller hardware store, fruit stand, malls, or outdoor swap meets could be better in some ways than the various "superstores", but I fail to see "the evil" involved.

I'm not saying that Supermarkets of various kinds can't be disruptive in various ways, but large numbers of people suddenly deciding to buy anything and from anywhere can be disruptive [e.g. kids spending all their candy and soda money on those new fangled records].

What is strange to me is I don't buy anything at Walmart, I have gone into a Walmart one or two times [there is one about mile from where I live] and I fail to understand why I would want to shop there. But at same time I think is more than slight possibility that even though you complain about Walmart you may actually go shopping there.
But what is an even stranger possibility is that if in some distance future, Walmarts [for some reason] were disappear [and all your heart desire comes true]. It's disappearance would probably at the time *then* be a sure sign that everything is wrong.
