Without reading anything but the body, it looks to me like a career officer currying favor (kissing ass). According to that article the Army is in great shape, its' recruiting is more than adequate, and there are and have been no problems with equipment.
I can see where a person might get the idea that Iraq is no more than a minor action for a military which is successfully protecting the globe, from Korea and Japan to Germany, for freedom and democracy.
One thought where his thinking is a bit novel; his premise that the reserves in the US don't need the latest equipment. Usually one would expect the reserves to be trained in it before deployment and then take their equipment with them. The folks they are replacing brings theirs back for overhaul. At least the folks going over are trained in it, in the "old" army.
Another is that Vietnam-era is good enough for the people until they get new items, that even if there is better
equipment it is OK in an optional war to go ahead without the best for your people. He's right in an emergency, but in an optional war one should do the very best for their troops.
A point he missed is that in Vietnam folks like him didn't come back. Those "kiss up, kick down" types tended to die even if they didn't get near the front. "Friendly fragging".
It was quite instructive though. Thanks for the post. I've met the guy. Not the same guy, but guys like him, both in and out of the military.
