;-) Oh my...I think that this is the proper answer to the specious RightWing question "why should there by a timelimit on war?" There is an intrinsic time limit because of ordinary wear and tear. War is supposed to be an extraordinary condition, not the norm, and our military was designed with that in mind. That's where the idea of relying heaviliy on reserves comes from--their callups should be rare and brief, and only to cover a temporary need. Reservists agree to serve under extraordinary conditions, and did not agree to a surreptitious backdoor draft to make their service fulltime. The rules about R&R time between deployments aren't to "coddle" the troops, it's hard-headed rational maintenance time. Treat your car that way and it breaks down; treat the Army that way, and it too will break down.
So many problems have flowed from the Bushies' ideological belief that everything should be done on the cheap. It's dishonest, and if we need a bigger military, then we should bite the bullet and pay the cost of funding a larger fulltime military, not exploit the patriotism of reservists to paper over that foolishness.
