What I find morbidly fascinating is the consistent thread in Conservative ideology that peace is somehow bad, and that those who value it and work toward it are weaklings and cowards.
This is a pile of shit. What conservatives (and quite a few liberals) realize is that while peace is what you want, military strength has been what has bought us peace, and always has.
We get enough smug crap from little European nations who have huddled under our financial and military umbrella for half a century while calling us warmongers, and bragging about how they don't need to be militaristic. I figured you knew better.
Do you realize that until 1990 we had TWICE as many troops in Europe than we now have in Iraq?
"Weaklings and cowards" are people who let other people protect them while at the same time condemning their militarism and violence.
Peace, at least in the way you foggily define it, is not the "normal state of being" of any living creature on the planet, and certainly not of the human race. Until recently, historically speaking, almost all cities had walls.
Do you think that if we just stop fighting, that people dedicated to our destruction will just stop?
There's a good reason I don't want the Democrats running our security. Even now, Nancy Pelosi is firmly convinced that she has run rings around Assad.
