Did you really think your voluminous documentation would distract me into equating the secret concession to withdraw the Jupiters as being an equivalent action to Reagan's disgraceful treachery in Iran? You are once again the master propagandist, taking a single event that occurred decades earlier to divert the attention from the crimes of a president who
1) made his reputation on being such a tough guy
2) who said repeatedly he would never negotiate with terrorists
3) who secretly negotiated with terrorists to get hostages released
4) when he never planned to tell anyone how they were actually released, but almost certainly would profit politically by it
5) and further humiliated himself before those terrorists by his fawning obsequiousness to them
6) while still managing to screw up the deal by obviously misjudging his
opponents.
Without defending Kennedy's action, I can concede he gave something up in order to achieve something--prevent a war. This was not bad in itself, although hushing it up to inflate his reputation and enlisting the Russian's aid in this certainly was a shameful act.
But do really think this is remotely in the same league as what Reagan did in Iran? Of course not, that's why you had to go back half a century for your counterexample. As you yourself conceded earlier, leaders do conduct secret treaties which they may prefer to not have their citizens learn about. But Reagan approached the Iranians, he made them the offer they refused, there was no great issue at stake, it was a bid to engage them in a trade strictly for his own political gain. He wasn't trying to get out of a sticky situation, he deliberately set the whole thing up to make himself look good.
But of course, we can condemn Kennedy for his duplicity because he was a Democrat, and since Kennedy did it it's ok for Reagan to do it, and Saint Ronnie's action is fine because it was really all about fighting communism. Even Nixon's crimes were more excusable.
I'm sick and tired of my country's turnpikes, airports and aircraft carriers being named after this profoundly evil man and I am fed up with the political philosophy so obsessed with securing its political and economic dominance that it would accept this cynical opportunist as the champion of its values.
