re: Messianic Gore

It's a myth that the Supreme Court decision mattered.

The Florida Supreme Court ordered a manual recount in all counties including "undervotes." The Supreme Court reversed this decision.

If they had not so ruled, the manual recount would have proceeded, and according to the later press recount under the Florida Supreme Court rules, Bush would have won anyway by 493 votes.

In other words, had the U.S. Supreme Court vanished in a puff of purple smoke before a decision was rendered, the outcome would have been the same.

Had Gore gotten his original four-county recount unimpeded, Bush would still have won by 225 votes.

No doubt under all these circumstances the Democrats would have tried to change the counting rules again until they came up with a combination that finally put Gore on top--the news article mentions some--but that's neither here nor there.
