First you must assume that Germany would have lost the war. Let's say they did.
Would NATO, as you envision it, been strong enough to fend off the threat of a USSR under Stalin, Krushev and Bresnev? I doubt it but since you imply Europe would not have surrendered without a fight, at least there would have been another devastating war.
Surely your thinking has not "evolved" to the point that you do not believe that Russia and China were dogmatic and expansionist nations.
We are seeing contempt for the U.S. rise to a new level in this thread.
