re: Bowser is scum.

Bowser and lots of other people think that space exploration is another word for NASA- American space exploration is something done exclusively by NASA.

It would nice if NASA was the Lewis and Clark of the 21th Century, but it's not. NASA is primarily a job program- and it's job program for some people who are somewhat interested in space exploration.

The ending of NASA could be good news for American space exploration [rather than the end of American space exploration] because NASA is a job program and it's death might be the only way that job program ends. Though I won't count on it- like most revolutions they generally don't produce the desired results. The only reason I say "could be good news" is there would a small chance of actually getting rid the job program [it would morph into something else] and smaller chance any improvement. I don't support the idea- because there are not good odds.
Instead what I support is "hopefully" for NASA to slowly become more "Lewis and Clark" ish and hopefully more independent private sector involvement. Sort of "Fight the war with the army you have".

Now, at the moment space exploration is obviously seen unimportant- if it was important more money would spend on doing it. I think if the Dems showed more support for NASA and provided modest or significant increases in NASA funding [with the purpose being to speed up the current timetable for exploration of Moon and Mars] I would applaud this dem effort, but I don't see this as very likely- I don't see any chance this year, but maybe next year.
In meanwhile I see more hope from private sector- and the world changing in general.
