I caught most of the democratic debates last night where there was some mention of raising the salaries to those teachers who ran the best test-achieving classes. Which is the backwards way to do it, if you ask me.
That (in all fairness) is only going to produce the best of the worst in my opinion, at least most of the time. Because when the best is motivated by money and "standards", then the most sociopathic of them find ways to work and beat the "system".
Teachers are over-worked and underpaid, RIGHT NOW if you ask me. Give THEM what they are worth, then ASK for higher standards, and eventually you will have the school administrators taking care of business. Raise their salaries and you will have more eager teachers coming into the system.
Reminds me of my old boss....looked good on paper at the end of the year from all the ways he saved the company money. While the business crumbled from within and morale went down the tubes.
The only one left working for the "money" was him.
