Nothing there that argues against pragmatism
Nothing argues more against slavery and death penalty than pragmatism. That is true today and it has always been true.
I'm not sure what having sex in public has to do with pragmatism but obviously any workable philosophy is tied to culture. What was a good idea a hundred years ago is not necessarily a good idea today.
A philosophy must be dynamic to survive.
