First, to Frank's point ~

Not everyone in The Lower Left Corner is an unpragmatic loon by association alone (see my answer to Art at the end of this), and the opposite corner has had its share.

I had a look at that "2007 Primaries" chart before I posted my score. It kinda reminds me of a Hertzsprung-Russel diagram...

Factoring in the pragmatics of American politics, there's no surprise that all candidates of both parties (but two, who aren't viable, anyway) are spread around in that Upper Right Corner. They're all pols running for the Presidency, for cripes sake... of course they're authoritarian.

It's revealing that a vertical can be drawn cleanly between the Democrats and Republicans, dividing the parties on average economic policy. Also, a line connecting Bill Richardson's and John McCain's red dots clearly separates the parties on the authoritarian scale.

Graphic analysis: nothin' like it.

Now to Tom ~

Same graphic, same discounting of Kucinich and Gravel... with John Edwards as the relatively most "collectivist" of the Democrats with a chance, why so worried about the near-term fate of the country? I mean, come on... John Edwards?

[Personally, I'm a lot more concerned about Mit Romney's position along the authoritarian axis; specifically, about which Authority he intends to invoke.]

On the questions: Without taking the test again, my memory of them is pretty even for stands on both ends of the economic axis. And one had the choice of "disagree" or "strongly disagree" in every case.

And to a point Art made, re 'fudging the answers' ~

Yeah, me too, but I take the tests anyway, and I answer them idealistically. I usually end up thinking about The Dispossessed, by LeGuin. In other words, I dream in the company of the Dalai Lama, but I don't live there.
