Websites I'm familiar with stated that Arabic speakers identified the wording as "death," but I wanted to see for myself, and had to do the best I could without direct access to someone who speaks the language.
I checked it using two or three online translators, comparing the result with the one sequence in the signs that repeated between the two different signs. I also checked it online against one or two other short Arabic sentences identified in context as containing the phrase "death."
I then counterchecked it by doing the same thing with the word "down."
I could probably ace it by running the photos past an Iranian who works with my wife. Do I need to?
