I have more questions about US foreign policy

Certain facts seem apparent:

1. The US supported the Sha in Iran, a dictator.
2. When the Sha was deposed the US supported Iraq in a war against Iran.
3. When Iraq invaded Kuwait, the US supported Kuwait against Iraq.
4. After toppling the Taliban, the US went back to Iraq to finish the job and toppled Saddam.
5. The US has supported Israel militarily ever since its creation as a sovereign state.
6. The US supports the House of Saud, rulers of Saudi Arabia, an authoritarian regime.

Can anyone tell me the reasons why the US has supported these specific groups? And more generally, can anyone tell me why the US is at all involved with these groups?
