Actually, this is quite true.
Unlike other organisms which are controlled by biological constraints, humans can continue to multiply and consume without limit, as long as they can use energy to convert earth resources into forms usable for them. No closed system can tolerate any internal component that expands continuously, without limits, forever.
However, the same technological culture which allows humans to do this also contains the solution to the problem. Humans can use energy and resources efficiently, and develop renewable sources of both, they can practice conservation and exercise realistic prioritiies, and they can control their growth and develop new resources. And they will do this, allowing them to have their cake and eat it too, unless they are frustrated by greedy, criminal humans who want all the cake for themselves and don't care what happens to anyone else.
However, the implication that humans need to be exterminated to save the planet is yours, not theirs. They are just trying to make a point through exaggeration--just like you are.
Or are you? :)
