Now it's racism?
Let's see how much symbolic racism can we throw into such a post?
"I suspect you fantasize yourself on a spotless gleaming bridge high above the water, in your starched whites, creases as sharp as a knife, watching a perfect sunrise across a sea of molten amber."
"The world you describe will be kept afloat by the black gang in the engine room"
Hardly. I have no fetish of technology. I like beautiful parklands, deserts, the sound of the surf poundingn the sand during a storm and wide-open spaces and beautiful skies as much as anyone - possibly more.
In "my" perfect world technology is the intermediate step between working with the hands and working with the mind. Eventually technology will be outmoded by mind power. Telekinesis, telepathy, psychometry and even mind-based teleportation will eventually do away with the need for machines. Transportation, communication and the world as it is known now will eventually be a distant memory.
Humanity will unlock it's untapped abilities and further remove itself from the animal kingdom. Discussions like this will take place sans technology. The HabitableZone of the future is just the meeting of minds on a specific wavelength and frequency. They could just as easily take place in the most beautiful garden, where the smells of honeysuckle waft in the air and the flowerbeds rustle with the gentle breeze.
But first there will come a middle-ground a merging of technocracy and nature. The housing, feeding and education of the masses must first be aided by technology. Then as generations of humans evolve and improve the species, we will see an Earth evolve vastly different than many might imagine. People 8 and 9 feet tall, with many varying complexions, all working together in harmony because they have already started to do away with lower emotions. A humanity that has broken through racial barriers and evolved into a hyper-intelligent race, where even the children play without violence or anger, because such is as uncommon in this future time as murder is today.
A world where education is free and where want is unknown. Market economics are slowly displaced by the socialist utopia many have wished for for centuries. However this "utopia" can only be achieved once the technocracy is so evolved that shelter, food, textiles are in abundance and can be created with hardly any effort at all.
Then when man spends more time thinking than working with his hands to provide for his and his family's survival, he will pursue new interests, new hobbies and will reach further out into the stars to find new pathways to follow.

That is my "utopian dream" not one where I am Simon Legree in a Mark Twain suit holding a super ipod.
